PrimeJobs Interview Guide will help you with the basics in preparing for your next interview. Applying is the easiest part of getting a job. Searching for one, then getting a response and going to an interview are the hardest parts. Most people know the basics of an interview. After all, it only makes sense to learn about where you’re going to work before an interview. Any insider information you can get on your on your new company, the person interviewing you or you new potential boss is great. It’s also good to clean up when you’re heading into the interview. Most people know all these things. But what are the other dos and don’ts of an interview? And are there different rules for the virtual and the one on one interviews? PrimeJobs Interview Guide will help you get there.
The time has come. You’ve been preparing tirelessly, and you’re ready. You did your homework, and know the material. You’re a perfect candidate, and your resume (in hand) shows that. All you have to do now is make a good first impression. Get there on time. About fifteen minutes before your interview. Chat up members of the staff if you can. Don’t overstep boundaries, but if an opportunity presents itself, take it. Most companies rate you according to how well you relate to their employees and your environment. Most of the time your interview starts the minute you step into the office.
When it’s your turn to be interviewed, relax. You got this. Just be calm, humble, and relaxed. Simple deep breathing exercises can help. When you get into the room, stand until you’re invited to sit. Sit upright in your chair, open stance, hands on the desk. Thank the person interviewing for taking the time, and compliment their office, company, employees or anything you’re impressed by. Asking questions is always good. The best defense is a good offense, so ask away when appropriate. It’s good to get them talking. But also answer questions as intelligently as you can. Take time to think through your replies. Add value wherever you can. And at the end of it all, don’t forget to ask some questions about when they are looking for someone to start, how orientation or training would look, and how quickly someone could advance or move up. That way they know you want to grow and exceed expectations
Before you have a virtual interview, make sure your Wi-fi’s stable and your computer is running fine. Also look around you, or more specifically behind you. If you’re in your workspace, make sure there is nothing inappropriate or tacky hanging in the background. If you can, do it in your home with a comfortable setting. You don’t really want to be in a little space or have someone walk in on you. An excellent backdrop shows how professional you are. During the interview, look into the webcam. It’s the closest you will get to maintaining eye contact with your interviewer. Lastly, dress to impress. Your top half at least.
Not To Do on the Interview
For the face to face interview, here are some of the things you should not do. First, try not to show that you’re nervous because everybody probably is. Don’t ramble on about a past job and if you do, leave your boss’s perceived bad traits out of it. Don’t speak badly about anyone, keep it positive. If you have to talk about money, let your interviewer touch on it first. If you go first, you’ll end up looking like you care more about the money than the job. Interviews are about marketing yourself, so represent yourself well.
On interview day, don’t oversell it. Also, do not try to get an advantage over other interviewees by highlighting your “problems” to show how much you need the job. People don’t want to hear about your problems, they will assume you’re bringing them with you. They are looking for someone who is a good fit for the position and can do the job. Show you are a team player and can work within their environment. Or be honest, and just tell them that it isn’t a good fit if you don’t feel it.
